9 Universities of United States Visit UNS

Thursday, 6 November 2011, in Ruang Sidang I Rectorate Building, UNS welcomed a delegation of leaders from 9 universities of United States which are members of consortium “Global Associates Knowledge Network of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association”.

This meeting was aimed to explore partnership opportunity between those universities with UNS in several scopes such as academic partnership, research, etc.

The nine universities are: Brown University, Syracuse University, California State University, Long Beach, Kansas State University, University of Massachusetts Boston, University of Mississippi, San Diego State University, La Salle University, and The George Washington University. Also included in the delegation are two representative from ACCESS Education. Those delegations were welcomed by Rector of UNS, Vice Rectors, Senior Advisor for Rector, Deans, Director of Postgraduate Program, and also International Office as the host.

In his speech, Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Ravik Karsidi, M.S. highly appreciated the visit of those delegations to encourage UNS international partnership with universities in the United States specifically in academic fields. The Rector also expected both parties to intensify meetings and discussion to follow up the partnership agenda.

Brook W. Ross, the director of ACCESS Education, mentioned that the day of the meeting was exactly the first anniversary of President Barrack Obama and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono signing Bilateral Agreement between Indonesia and the United States. The agreement includes collaboration in education fields, especially in higher education. Thus, the delegations were very glad to visit UNS to explore possible collaborations. He expected that the collaboration could be realized in research collaboration, student exchange, or faculty exchange, etc.

The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Drs. Soetarno, M.Sc, Ph.D, delivered a high expectation that the meeting could be an initiation for further collaboration between UNS and those 9 universities of United States as UNS has already established good partnership with University of Pittsburgh and Florida State University.
In the end of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Ravik Karsidi, M.S. delivered a closing remark about his expectation, “I would be very happy if all of you can come to my university again someday, and I will be honored of that”.
