QS Stars is an evaluation system that evaluates universities worldwide using a rating method. Universities are awarded with a rating of one to five stars, five stars being the highest rating depending on their performance within the evaluation. Universities are evaluated against eight criteria; Research Quality, Teaching Quality, Graduate Employability, Infrastructure, Internationalization, Innovation & Knowledge Transfer, Third Mission and Specialist Subject Criteria. Each criterion has its own indicators.
According to QS Stars evaluation and assessment, UNS scored four stars for Employability and Infrastructure; two stars for Internationalization and Innovation; and one star for Teaching and Engagement.

Of all 39 QS-rated higher education institutions in Indonesia, there are 11 other institutions that have achieved two stars. According to QS website, a two stars university is one which is active in research and has an established domestic reputation. The institution is a key part of its local community and will begin to consider international opportunities.

As said by Prof. Dr. Ravik Karsidi, M.S., UNS has set several strategic plans for the next 30 year. One of the plans is becoming a world class university. Assessment from international institutions becomes a way to monitor and evaluate the strategic plans implementation. Therefore, achieving QS Stars badge for excellence in higher education becomes one of UNS’ strategic steps towards gaining global recognition. Moreover, this achievement proves the commitment of UNS to become a world-class university.
Attending the ceremony was also a good opportunity to establish new partnerships with various universities which also attended the event. It is a good occassion to expand UNS network, so that in the future, there will be more cooperation between UNS and universities around the world.
